EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Michigan State standout golfer Emily Bastel (1998-2002) earned her tour card for the 2005 LPGA season, as she finished tied for fourth place at last week's LPGA Qualifying School, which was held at the LPGA International Legends and Champions courses in Daytona Beach, Fla. Bastel finished the five-day tour qualifier shooting a 356 (67-72-76-69-72).
The finish marks the first time in Bastel's professional career that she has earned her LPGA tour card. The card will allow her to compete in any LPGA event during the 2005 season. Bastel also received $4,500 for her top-five finish.
Bastel graduated from Michigan State as one of the school's most decorated golfers. She is one of only two golfers to have been named to the All-Big Ten team for four consecutive seasons, alongside being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year during her first season with the Green and White. Bastel is Michigan State's record holder in career scoring (75.75) and wrapped-up her career with the Spartans earning All-America Second Team honors during her senior season.
Fellow Spartan Stacy Snider (1998-2002) missed the cut by two shots, as she finished the qualifier shooting a 364 (79-68-75-72-70). She enters the 2005 LGPA season with non-exempt status.
