EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State freshman Sean Walker (Round Lake, Ill.) has been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American baseball team, as chosen by Collegiate Baseball. Walker was one of five freshmen across the country named to the team as a catcher.
Walker played in 54 games for the Spartans this season, including 48 starts, and hit .288 with 15 doubles, nine home runs, 29 runs batted in and 28 runs scored. He belted 49 hits and slugged .535. He ranked tied for second on the team in doubles and fourth in home runs. In Big Ten games, he hit .290 with seven doubles and five home runs while driving in 15 runs.
Walker is the fourth Spartan to be named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in the past five seasons. Tim Day earned the honor in 2002, Bryan Gale in 2001 and Bob Malek in 2000.
Michigan State finished the 2004 season with a 33-26 overall record, including a 19-13 mark in the Big Ten which was good for a tie for third. The 33 victories were the sixth most in MSU history, while the 19 Big Ten wins were a new MSU single-season record.
