EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State softball coach Jacquie Joseph announced the hiring of Nikki Myers as assistant coach Tuesday. Myers comes to Michigan State after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida Atlantic University for one season. She was a four-year starting pitcher for FAU from 1998-2002. "Nikki Myers will be a great addition to our staff," said Joseph. "She played for Joan Joyce at Florida Atlantic, and is arguably one of the all-time greatest pitchers to play collegiate softball. I am confident Nikki will have an immediate and positive impact on our program." "Having played against Michigan State when I was at Florida Atlantic, I'm familiar with Jacquie Joseph and MSU softball's success," said Myers. "I am really excited to be joining such a respected staff and am looking forward to learning and hope to contribute to all aspects of Spartan softball." As a volunteer assistant coach at Florida Atlantic, Myers assisted in planning daily practices and helped with recruiting and scouting. She also worked as a camp counselor and clinician in FAU's camps, as she taught fundamentals of softball to campers. Myers, who is currently pitching for the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch league, was a three-time Atlantic Sun Conference player of the year, was the league's conference championship most valuable player four times and earned first-team all-conference honors in each of her four years. Additionally, she was named a second-team All-America selection twice, and earned NCAA all-regional honors in 2000 and 2001. Myers is ranked third all-time in NCAA history with 1,376 strikeouts, and was one of 10 players on the short list for the 2002 National Player of the Year award. She was FAU's female athlete of the year in 1999, and earned A-Sun pitcher of the week accolades 15 times, player of the week honors six times. Myers earned her B.S. in biology from FAU in May 2004, with a major course of study in science. She is a native of Tampa, Fla.
