Today's attendance was 74,063, marking the 44th-straight crowd of over 72,000 at Spartan Stadium.
With the 46-15 win, the Spartan now lead the overall series 38-14-2, including a 20-6-1 mark in East Lansing...the Spartans have won nine of the last 10 games in the series and 14 of the last 17.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES:
Junior Demond Williams returned the opening kickoff for 98 yards...it marks the first time in recorded history (since 1947) that MSU has returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown...it also marks the first kickoff return for a touchdown for MSU since DeAndra Cobb returned a kick for a TD against Notre Dame last year at Spartan Stadium.
Williams also blocked a Hoosier extra-point in the second quarter which led to two points for MSU...Ashton Watson returned the blocked kick for 75 yards and the two points to give MSU a 25-8 lead...it marked the first defensive extra point scored for MSU since Rob Fredickson returned a block PAT for 82 yards vs. Purdue on Nov. 14, 1992.
Williams' kickoff return was the seventh special teams touchdown of Coach John L. Smith's tenure...it was the fifth kickoff return for a touchdown.
OFFENSIVELY SPEAKING:
The Spartans racked up 493 yards of total offense against the Hoosiers...MSU has gained over 450 yards of total offense in every game this season.
Junior wide receiver Kerry Reed caught six passes for 80 yards, both season bests.
STANTON WATCH:
Junior quarterback Drew Stanton set a school record with his ninth-straight game passing for at least 200 yards...Jeff Smoker held the previous record of eight games in 2003...it marks the 11th time in Stanton's career he has thrown for over 200 yards.
Stanton also set a school record for throwing a touchdown pass in his ninth consecutive game, equaling the mark set by Jeff Smoker in 2001.
Stanton threw for two touchdowns today against Indiana, raising his total to 18 for the season, which is tied for sixth most in a MSU single-season (Todd Schultz-1997)...Stanton also has 2,284 passing yards this season, moving him up five spots in the MSU season record books to fifth place.
In the career charts, Stanton now has 3,924 passing yards, which is ninth best in MSU history.
A LOOK AT THE RUNNING BACKS:
Sophomore Jehuu Caulcrick scored his team-leading seventh touchdown with a 1-yard run in the third quarter...he has scored a rushing touchdown in the last four games.
Freshman Javon Ringer rushed for 109 yards on 11 carries...he ran for a 45-yard touchdown at the 1:42 mark in the third quarter...it was his longest touchdown run of the season, and his first since Hawaii...it was his second touchdown run of over 40 yards (41 yards vs. Hawaii)...it was Ringer's third 100-yard rushing effort of the season...Ringer becomes the first freshman at MSU to rush for back-to-back 100-yard games since Sedrick Irvin in 1996...Irvin rushed for 100 yards five times that season.
DEFENSIVE NOTES:
Senior safety Eric Smith recorded 11 tackles against Indiana...he now has 298 career tackles, and is just two shy of becoming only the 15th Spartan to reach the 300-tackle milestone.
MSU matched its season-high with four takeaways vs. Indiana...the Spartans also created four turnovers at Ohio State...the Spartans intercepted three passes for the first time since 2003 against Louisiana Tech.
The Spartan defense recorded six tackles for loss, including two sacks for 10 yards.
Brandon Long recovered his first career fumble in the third quarter...Kaleb Thornhill recorded his first career sack with an eight-yard stop in the first quarter...Otis Wiley intercepted a pass in the end zone in the fourth quarter for his first career interception.
