In addition, Al Fracassa, the winningest head football coach in Michigan high school history, will be presented the Duffy Daugherty Award at the Spartan Football Senior Awards Banquet. The award, named in honor of MSU's legendary head coach, has been presented annually since 1975 to a Spartan football alumnus who has distinguished himself both on and off the field following his graduation.
The award recognizes Fracassa's contributions as a head coach at Royal Oak Shrine of the Little Flower (1960-68) and Birmingham Brother Rice (1969-present) - a total of 46 seasons - and counting. The 73-year-old Fracassa has compiled a career record of 354-94-7 (.786), all in the Detroit Catholic League. In 37 years at Birmingham Brother Rice, he has produced a 310-75-3 worksheet while winning six state championships (1977, 1980, 1983, 1990, 2000 and 2005).
A graduate of Detroit Northeastern High School, Fracassa played for both Biggie Munn and Duffy Daugherty at Michigan State, serving as a back-up quarterback to Tom Yewcic in 1952-53 and Earl Morrall in 1954.
