EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Spartans Online Student-Athletes of the Week for Feb.7 are Liz Shimek from women's basketball and Dominic Vicari from ice hockey, as selected by the MSU Sports Information Staff.
Liz Shimek received her first Big Ten Player of the Week honor on Monday, Feb.7. During MSU's victory over Northwestern on Feb. 3, Shimek scored 21 points and had six rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Shimek grabbed 21 points again in MSU's victory over Illinois on Feb. 6. She also had nine rebounds, a career-high five assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.
The basketball team plays the Golden Gophers in Minneapolis, Minn. on Feb. 10.

Best part of Spartan basketball: Playing in front of the home crowd; playing in Breslin is awesome.
If you won the lottery what would you do with your money? I would buy my family a nice home on the water up north.
Dream job: I want to own my own business up north someday, like a health club.
One thing most people don't know about you: I was born in my home, in my house.

Dominic Vicari was announced CCHA Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 7. After battling the flu for a week, Vicari stopped 82-85 (.965) shots vs. Michigan last weekend (Feb. 5 and 6). In each game, he stopped 41 shots, earning him the No. 3 star of the game honors on Friday night in Ann Arbor and the No. 1 star of the game honors on Saturday night in Joe Louis Arena.
The hockey team plays the UAF Nanooks in Fairbanks, Alaska on Feb. 11 and 12.

Nickname: I have a couple of them; it started with meatball then its meats, motsyballs, and stuff like that.
Why did you choose to become a goalie? I actually started by playing defense. It was on one of those teams where you rotate positions and I started with defense. I did alright, but wasn't too good at it. The next game, it was my turn to play goal and I did pretty good. The second time around, I did well again, so they just left me in there. I started not really by choice, but I have loved it ever since.
What is the craziest way a shot has got past you into the goal? A couple of times the puck has hit a bar and hit me and gone in. One time it hit the bar and then my head and went in. But I can't really think of anything real crazy that would stand out.
If you could be any superhero or villain who would you be? I think I would be Batman because he has all the cool tools and gadgets.
If you could meet anyone in the world, who would you meet? The cast from Reno 911.
Favorite movie: Super Troopers.
