EAST LANSING, Mich. - For sophomore Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.), college has been a bit of a journey. Now in her third season with the Spartans, Meikle is feeling more comfortable in her role with the team and has been showing it out on the golf course. She has appeared in six events for the Green and White throughout 2004-05, and has grown into an impact player that head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll can count on. Last weekend, Meikle had the best outing of her young collegiate career, finishing in a tie for 14th place at the 2005 Liz Murphey Invitational.
Meikle took a break to glance back at her time here at Michigan State and to look forward to her future with the team.

When did you start golfing?
When I was 12 years old. My grandpa got me started on it.
Why did you choose to play your collegiate golf at Michigan State?
I chose it because of coach and I loved the campus and the girls when I came to visit. It was a perfect fit for me. I knew when I came on my visit.
Are you feeling more comfortable with the team now that you have a couple of seasons under your belt?
This is my third year here and I feel a lot more comfortable now. I have learned a lot about myself and my own goals. I now feel like I know the best way to get there.
Has that feeling helped you to perform better?
Definitely. It helps out. I think that I better my role on the team and I feel better about who I am, where I have come from and where I want to go. When you combine all of that, it adds up to make this place a pretty good environment.
If you had to choose one thing, what is the most valuable thing you have learned in your time here at Michigan State?
I would say the one thing that I have learned is that I am not perfect, just like everyone else. I have a lot to learn. I trust myself and trust the people around me to help me get to where I want to go.
What is your favorite memory so far?
It would probably be the times that the team hangs out outside of golf. There are always some pretty funny stories that come out of those times.
Do you have any specific goals you want to achieve in your time here?
I definitely have a goal to win and tournament to be First-Team All-Conference player.
