EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State red-shirt junior pitcher Tim Day (West Chester, Ohio) and sophomore catcher/first baseman Sean Walker (Round Lake, Ill.) were honored by the Big Ten Conference Monday, April 18 for their performances at Ohio State last weekend. Day was named the league's Pitcher of the Week, while Walker shared Big Ten Player of the Week honors with Minnesota's Andy Hunter.
"We had a great weekend winning three out of four at Ohio State and have placed ourselves in a good position to climb up the Big Ten standings," said MSU head coach Ted Mahan.
Day earned his first complete-game shutout victory since the 2002 season after posting a 2-0 win over the Buckeyes on April 15. The 6-4, 210-pound right-hander tied a season-best five strikeouts and walked one while scattering eight hits. Day currently sits in sixth place among MSU's all-time career leaders in wins (18) and innings pitched (219).

Walker tallied three home runs, eight RBI and five runs scored to help the Spartans become the second Big Ten team to win a series against Ohio State in the nine-year history of Bill Davis Stadium. The 6-3, 240-pounder blasted two homers, including a game-tying grand slam, and drove in five runs in the series finale on April 17. He is tied for second in the Big Ten with six homers and leads the league with five dingers in conference games.
"Anytime you throw a shutout in the first game like Tim did, it sets the tone for us over the weekend and Sean had a tremendous weekend with three homers and eight RBI," Mahan said. "These honors are well deserved for both players."
The Spartans (15-18, 6-6) are currently tied for fifth place in the league standings and open a four-game league series against Purdue on Friday, April 22, at Kobs Field.
