Women's Golf Selected For NCAA Central Regional Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee has announced the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regional Championships and the Michigan State women's golf team has earned its seventh straight trip to regionals.
Three regional tournaments will be held May 5-7 to determine the championship field. A total of 324 participants have been selected for regional competition. The top eight teams and two individuals from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships. The championship finals will be held May 17-20 at Sunriver Resort in Corvallis, Oregon.
The Spartans, who picked up the No. 14 seed in the Central Region, will head to the Jerry Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock, Texas, May 5-7, for the 2005 NCAA Central Regional Championships. Last year, State placed third at the 2004 NCAA Central Regionals in Normal, Ill.
"We are very excited about making the NCAA Regionals," said MSU Head Coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "We have a great chance to advance to the NCAA Championships once again this year."
Michigan State is coming off a third-place finish at the 2005 Big Ten Championships last weekend. Despite battling the elements, State finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of 933 (306-306-321) at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Spartans placed four players in the top 20 and were led by sophomore Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio), who finished tied for fourth.
Prior to the Big Ten Championships, State claimed top honors at the Buckeye Invitational (April 16-17). Five individuals finished in the top 20 and were led by sophomore Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who finished in second place.
"Our confidence has grown week-by-week this spring," continued Slobodnik-Stoll. "We keep getting better and improving with each tournament."
