Women's Golf Summer Update I

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Here are just a few of the summer happenings with the MSU women's golf team:
+ Three current Spartans - Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio), Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz.) - have qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. The tournament will be played July 11-16 at Swope Memorial Golf Club in Kansas City.
Rose took medalist honors at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Detroit with a 70 in the sectional qualifying, while Meikle also was the medalist with a 73 at the Pipe Stone Golf Club in Dayton, Ohio. Brown placed second in sectional qualifying with a 71 at the Mesa Country Club in Mesa, Ariz.
+ Former Spartan Emily Bastel (1998-2002) will be making her second appearance in the U.S. Women's Open at Cherry Hills Golf Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., this weekend. Batel also participated in the 2002 U.S. Women's Open.

+ Former Spartans Allison Fouch (2000-04) and Stacy Snider (1998-2002) will both play in the Bank of Ann Arbor FUTURES Golf Classic this weekend (June 24-26) at the Lake Forest Golf Club in Ann Arbor.
Fouch has played in nine events on the FUTURES Tour this season with her best finish to date a tie for 14th at the Michelob ULTRA FUTURES Charity Golf Classic in Decatur, Ill., June 19.
Snider has played on both the LPGA and FUTURE Tour this season. At the Wegman's Rochester LPGA Classic in Pittsford, N.Y., last week, Snider missed the cut after shooting a 153 (76-77).
+ MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll took medalist honors at the Golf Association of Michigan Mid-Amateur Champions at the Battle Creek Country Club on June 13-14, 2005. Slobodnik-Stoll shot a two-round 148 (74-74) to win by four strokes over Julie Massa.
In addition to Slobodnik-Stoll, former Spartan Joan Garety (1975-78) tied for third with a 155 (78-77).
