EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer senior midfielder Ryan McMahen (Munster, Ind.) was named a Third-Team Pre-Season All-American by College Soccer News. In 2004, McMahen earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors and was named Big Ten Tournament Offensive MVP. He finished the season with seven goals and nine assists. For his career, he has totaled 23 assists, ranking third in MSU history.
McMahen is one of just five Big Ten players to earn a spot on one of the three teams. A pair of Indiana juniors, forward Jacob Peterson and defender Jed Zayner, are second-team honorees, while McMahen is joined on the third team by Penn State senior midfielder David Walters and Ohio State senior defender Kyle Veris.
The Spartans open the 2005 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 4 against Massachusetts at 11 a.m. in the MSU/Radisson Fall Classic. Before that, MSU will play Loyola in an exhibition contest on Aug. 28 in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
