Mt. Pleasant, Mich. - Michigan State women's cross country freshman took center stage at the Jeff Drenth Memorial cross country meet, a non-scored event hosted annually by Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. Sarah Price (Mankato, Minn.) paced the Spartans finishing third overall with a 5K time of 18:30. Michelle Mercer (Muskegon, Mich.) crossed the finish line three seconds later in fourth place, followed by Laura Malnor (Grand Rapids, Mich.) in sixth place at 18:46 and Diane Hamilton (Battle Creek, Mich.) finished 12^th with a time of 19:38.

"I chose to race the freshmen, so that they could get a race under their belts," said head coach Rita Arndt-Molis, "I knew we had a good class and this gives them a good platform moving ahead into the Spartan Invite."

The Spartans Invitational will be held at the Forest Akers East Course on Sept. 16.
