Michigan State Notes
+ Today's attendance: 73,949. It marks the largest crowd for a home opener since 1987 vs. Southern Cal. It also marked the 40th consecutive game with attendance of over 72,000.
+ The Spartans scored on their first possession of the game - a 6-yard touchdown reception by Kyle Brown from Drew Stanton at the 12:10 mark of the first quarter. In 2004, MSU didn't score on its first possession until game 7 vs. Minnesota.
+ With an interception in the first quarter, SR DB Eric Smith recorded his third career interception and his first since 2003.
+ With three first-half rushing TDs, SO RB Jehuu Caulcrick posted his second career multi-touchdown game. He had a pair of rushing touchdowns vs. Minnesota, 2004.
+ SO RB Jehuu Caulcrick finished with 14 carries for 140 yards and three TDs. It marks his second career 100-yard rushing game (first, 146 yards vs. Wisconsin, 2004).
+ MSU set a new school record with 438 first-half yards. The previous mark was 407 yards, set last year vs. Minnesota.
+ The Spartans finished the game with 685 yards (354 rushing, 331 passing). The 685 total yards is the second-best total in school history. The school record for yards in a game is 698, set vs. Purdue, 1971.
+ SO WR Terry Love recorded his second career 100-yard receiving game (first - 103 yards vs. Iowa, 2004). Love finished with four catches for 100 yards.
+ JR QB Drew Stanton finished with 297 yards passing (22-of-29) with two TDs and one INT. His 297 yards passing is his third-best effort, behind 330 vs. Hawaii, 2004 and 308 vs. Minnesota, 2004.
+ SR WR Kyle Brown matched his career best with six catches vs. Kent State. He finished with 61 yards and one TD.
+ R-FR QB Brian Hoyer made his first appearance in a Spartan uniform. Hoyer finished the game 4-for-5 for 28 yards. His first pass completion was a 9-yard throw to FR WR Ryan Allison. It also marked Allison's first career catch.
+ FR RB Javon Ringer saw his first action in a Spartan uniform. He finished with 12 carries for 69 yards and his first career TD - a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.
+ MSU set a new school record with 35 first downs (18 rushing, 15 passing, 2 by penalty). State eclipses the previous record of 34, set vs. Purdue, 1990; vs. Indiana, 1981; and vs. Northwestern, 1978.
+ State held a 354-to-14 edge in net yards rushing. The last time the Spartans allowed fewer yards rushing was against Rutgers in 2003, when the Scarlet Knights finished with -2 yards rushing.
+ A total of 11 different receivers caught at least one ball, including Kyle Brown with six catches and Jerramy Scott with five. Four different players - Javon Ringer, Kerry Reed, Ryan Allison and Craig McGovern - had their first career catches today.
+ Matt Trannon completed his first career pass - a 6-yard toss to Jerramy Scott in the first quarter.
+ Kent State's four defensive backs (Jack Williams, Andre Kirkland, Fritz Jacques, Usama Young) all recorded a career high for tackles.
