Farmington Hills, Mich. - For the second week in a row, a Michigan State forward has staked claim to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Freshman of the Week award, as forward Tim Kennedy helped the Spartans sweep Alaska Fairbanks over the weekend. Kennedy netted the game-winning goal and added an assist in Friday's 4-0 blanking of the Nanooks, and chipped in with a pair of helpers in a Saturday night victory en route to being named the Perani Cup first star on both occasions.
The freshman from Buffalo, N.Y., posted the first consecutive multiple-point outings of his career over the weekend and the second and third of his career-in just nine games played. Kennedy has produced one goal and four assists in his last four games, returning to form after missing 16 games with a broken right hand. Kennedy recorded his first career two-point game on Oct. 22, against arch-rival Michigan.
Freshman Nick Sucharski (Toronto, Ont.) earned Freshman of the Week honors on Jan. 9 after posting his first-collegiate goal and a pair of assists in a weekend sweep of Wayne State. Junior goaltender Dominic Vicari (Clinton Twp., Mich.) and sophomore forward Bryan Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) have also earned weekly honors this season, following their performances in the Lefty McFadden Tournament during the opening week of the 2005-06 season. Vicari was named the league's Goaltender of the Week, while Lerg earned Offensive Player of the Week honors.
