Spartan Swimming Concludes Day One Of Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team completed day one of the Big Ten Championships, Thursday evening at Indiana. The Spartans scored 52 points on the opening day of competition and sit in ninth place heading into Friday's action.
"We had a good performance from Matt Wisniewski," head coach Matt Gianiodis commented. "As a team we could have done better. We will need to step it up in the next couple of days."
Individually, Wisniewski swam to 13th place in the 50 free (20.56) while in the relays he teamed up with Adam Schmitt, Rudolf Wagenaar and Nick Harley to finish seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:20.82). State also picked up a seventh place finish in the 400 medley, as the team of Wagenaar, Ian Clutten, Harley and Schmitt touched the wall at 3:16.48.
Day two of the Big Ten Championships will begin with preliminaries at 12 p.m., with finals beginning at 7 p.m. Scheduled for the second day of competition is the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and three-meter diving preliminaries.
