SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The women's track and field team completed the Meyo Invitational with high individual finishes and personal bests at a meet that featured top teams from the Big Ten, SEC and Big XII. Notre Dame hosted the event at the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend, Ind.
"This weekend was a good step in our preparation for the Big Ten Championships, and I'm happy with how we competed," said head coach Angela Goodman. "With six Big Ten teams competing, it was like a Big Ten Championships preview without the pressure."
Sophomore Nicole Bush (Wyoming, Mich.) highlighted the Spartan lineup, finishing seventh in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:35.22. In only her second event of the season, Bush narrowly missed the NCAA provisional time, finishing .22 seconds shy of the provisional mark. Sophomore Emily Adama (Newaygo, Mich.) set a personal best in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 26th with a time of 10:05.36, while freshman Sarah Price (Mankato, Minn.) finished with a personal-best time of 10:07.91.
Senior Aimee Keenan (Bellmont, Mich.) finished the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:11.39, and freshman Alise Nilsson (Williamston, Mich.) also set a personal-best time, running the race in 2:15.74.
In field events, senior Taren James (Long Beach, Calif.) set a season-best mark in the long jump, posting a jump of 5.87 meters (19-3.25). Her fifth-place finish in the event marked the third time she's finished in the top five this season. In addition, James finished 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.78 meters (38-7.75).
"This weekend was a chance for people to improve their marks, and our athletes made a good showing," coach Goodman said.
Michigan State returns to action next weekend, Feb. 10-11, at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
