
MSU Baseball Sinks Seton Hall, 4-3

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Recording his first career hit, John Lee produced the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning as Michigan State (4-5) baseball sank Seton Hall (3-8), 4-3. Quinn Ewert picked up his first career win on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out three and walking two in 4.0 innings pitched.
Seton Hall took a quick 1-0 lead, scoring a run in its opening at bat as Mike Young singled up the middle, advanced to third on Brandon Cohen's single and scored on Jeff Gerbe's balk.
Sean Walker put the Spartans on the board in the third, reaching on a single and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Oliver Wolcott, and later scoring on a Steve Gerstenberger RBI. The Green and White took a 2-1 advantage in the fifth when Gerstenberger doubled and took third on Troy Krider's ground out and scored the game's second run on a balk.
Dan McDonald gave the Pirates a 3-2 lead in the eighth, doubling to right and scoring on Mark Pappas' single to left field, but the Spartans responded in the bottom half of the inning. Reaching on a walk and advancing to second on a balk, Ryan Basham scored on Adam Tripp's RBI single, knotting the game at 3-3. With both teams going down without a score in the ninth, John Lee gave Michigan State the win as he cracked his first career hit in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded.
Gerstenberger and Tripp each recorded three hits for the Spartans, while Walker went 2-for-3 from the plate. McDonald led the Pirates offense, also going 2-for-3 at the plate. Keith Cantwell (0-1) took the loss on the hill for Seton Hall, allowing one run on six hits in 2.0 innings.
MSU returns to action on Saturday, March 11 in its final outing of its eight-day spring trip to Florida, facing Rhode Island at Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m.
