Michigan State Falls To Boston University, 4-3

MIAMI, Fla. - The Michigan State women's tennis team roared out to a 3-1 lead over Boston University, but faded down the stretch and dropped a 4-3 decision to the Terriers on Tuesday, March 7. Despite competing in their first match in more than three weeks, the Spartans were sharp, capturing the doubles point and a pair of singles matches, while forcing tie-breakers in two singles losses.
Junior Jessica Baron (Miami, Fla.), playing in front of her hometown crowd, opened the match by teaming with freshman Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.) to post an 8-5 victory over the Terrier tandem of Erin Katims and Yana Sadovskaya. Junior Pascale Schnitzer (Santiago, Chile) and freshman Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesberg, South Africa) added an 8-5 win of their own at the No. 3 position to grab the doubles point for Michigan State.
Schnitzer also scored a 7-5, 6-4 victory over BU's Gina Sabatino at No. 2 singles, while Baron capped a perfect afternoon with a 0-6, 7-6 (10-5) win over Laura Ahmes. Sophomore Christine Bader won the first set, but dropped a hard-fought, three-set match to Katims at the No. 1 position and junior Sarah Andrews (Darwin, Austrailia) also fell in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to BU's Danielle Abraham, as the Green and White were unable to capture the elusive and clinching fourth-point. Kebler had her personal, nine-match winning streak snapped following a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Sadovskaya at No. 4 singles.
MSU wrapped up the non-conference season with an 8-3 overall record and now focuses its attention on Big Ten play. Beginning March 22, with a home match against arch-rival Michigan, the Spartans will play their final ten regular-season contests of the spring season vs. conference opponents.
