
Spartans Suffer 6-1 Loss At Home

EAST LANSING, MICH. - Michigan State men's tennis suffered a 6-1 loss to Western Michigan, Saturday, Feb. 18, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Spartans dropped to 4-5 overall, while Western advanced to 9-1.
In doubles, Michigan State earned two victories. At No. 3, junior Joseph McWilliams and freshman John Allare teamed up to defeat Jeff French and Tim Bradshaw, 8-5. The duo of sophomores Nick Rinks and Adam Monich clinched the doubles point for MSU with a 8-6 victory over Brady Crosby and Bryan Norville. At No. 2, Freshman Alex Forger and junior Michael Flowers were knocked off by Alex Birchmeier and Jose Orozco, 8-6.
In singles action, MSU was not able to keep the momentum from the doubles victories alive, as they fell in all six match-ups. At No. 3, Allare fell to Orozco, 6-2, 6-4, while at No. 5, Birchmeier knocked off Rasmussen, 6-3, 6-1. Monich then battled it out to a 7-5, 6-3 loss against Brady Crosby at No. 2. Western clinched the overall victory at No. 4 when Kevin Hayward defeated Forger, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 1, Rinks battled to three sets against Bradshaw but eventually fell, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Michigan State will look to improve to .500 this week when they head on the road to Wisconsin on Feb. 24. The match begins at 6 p.m.
