EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's track and field team hosts the Spartan Invitational this Saturday, April 15, at the Ralph Young Track and Field. This will be the third outdoor meet of the season for MSU. Twenty-one teams and 362 student-athletes will be on hand for the annual meet, which will begin with the field events at 10:30 a.m., while the running events begin at noon.
Senior Taren James (Long Beach, Calif.) has been an early-season standout for the Spartans. James captured the triple-jump title, posting a leap of 41-5 ¾, at the Stanford Invitational, and added a second-place finish in the long-jump with a 19-8 ¾, qualifying for NCAA Regional competition in both events.
Erica Bailey (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Green and White at last weekend's Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, Ga., netting a pair of top-five placements in the throwing events. In the shot-put competition, Bailey turned in a 46-10 ¾ to place fifth and added a third-place performance in the hammer-throw with a toss of 157-9.
Sophomore Paris Mandy (St. Louis, Mo.) chipped in with a pair of top-15 finishes, in Athens, Ga., placing eighth in the 100 meters (12.31) and 12th in the 200 meters (25.31).
