Final Results
BRYAN, Texas - The Michigan State men's golf team shot a three-round total of 304-315-309 - 928 to finish in a tie for 11th at the Aggie Invitational on Sunday, April 16. No. 23 Texas Tech used a final-round score of 12-under-par 276 to overcome a 15-shot deficit, defeating host Texas A&M by one stroke at the par-72, 7,235-yard Traditions Golf Club.
The Red Raiders captured the tournament title with a 54-hole total of 300-292-276 - 868, while No. 10 Texas A&M finished a stroke back at 290-287-292 - 869. Second-ranked Oklahoma State finished third at 294-300-283 - 877, while Midwest District foe Kent State finished fourth at 292-301-290 - 883. The 12-team field featured 10 top-50 teams and 20 players ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 100.
Sophomore Ryan Brehm (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) carded the Spartans' lowest score in the first and final round, shooting 73-80-75 - 228 to tie for 26th place. Freshman Randy Hutchison (Traverse City, Mich.) finished in a tie for 34th, posting a 77-76-78 - 221 total.
Sophomore Nathan Gunthorpe (Ovid, Mich.) notched a 39th-place finish, carding a 54-hole total of 74-80-78 - 232, while junior Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished in a tie for 60th with a score of 83-79-78 - 240. Freshman Steve Cuzzort (Grosse Ile, Mich.) rounded out the Spartan lineup, finishing in a tie for 63rd at 80-83-79 - 242.
Michigan State returns to action next weekend when it hosts the 39th Bruce Fossum Invitational presented by Johnny Rockets. The 54-hole tournament begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun on Saturday, April 22, while the final round will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 23.
