Spartan assistant coach Nikki Myers earned consecutive victories over the Chinese Taipei Olympic team on Monday and Tuesday nights in her 2006 debut for the Connecticut Brakettes of the National Pro Fastpitch league. Myers (2-0) allowed just one earned run and four hits while striking out 14 in 14.0 innings of work.
"I started the season much better than I expected. Although I haven't pitched in a competitive game situation in nearly two years, I feel confident in my ability," Myers said. "I am very happy that I can continue my playing career because it really keeps me up to date with the sport and is also a great asset for my coaching career. After coaching the pitchers at Michigan State I can now pick out areas of my own game that I'd like to improve on."

Myers was a three-time Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year during her career at Florida Atlantic University (1998-2002). She earned conference championship most valuable player accolades four times and earned first-team all-conference honors in each of her four years at FAU. Additionally, she was named a second-team All-America selection twice, and earned NCAA all-regional honors in 2000 and 2001. Myers spent the 2004 season pitching for the NPF's Akron Racers and did not play in 2005.
The Brakettes began the year with seven straight postponed contests due to rain before defeating the Philadelphia Force, 3-1, on June 10. All contests with NPF league opponents, international opponents and the United States National Team are counted in each team's respective overall record. With an undefeated 4-0 mark, the Brakettes hold the top spot in the current NPF rankings.
The Brakettes continue action against Chinese Taipei, Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. before resuming NPF play against the Akron Racers in a four-game series beginning Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Field in Stratford.
