Sara Brown Finishes As Low Amateur At Michigan PGA Women's Open

CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN RESORT, Mich. - Michigan State junior Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz.) continued her summer of solid play by finishing as low amateur and fifth overall at the Michigan PGA Women's Open at the Crystal Mountain Resort. Brown had a three round total of 225 (77-77-71) and was one of three Spartans to finish in the top-20 with MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll.
Another Spartan to collect a top-10 finish was junior Kristen Polanski (Livonia, Mich.) who finished seventh with a score of 226 (71-79-76). Senior Rachel Miekle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had a three-round total of 229 (79-77-73) and finished tied for 13th. Slobodnik-Stoll tied for twentieth at 232 (75-80-77).
Senior Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) finished tied for 30th with a total of 236 (75-78-83). Right behind Rose tied for 32nd was red-shirt freshman Jen Domagalski (Okemos, Mich.) whose three-round total was 237 (79-79-79). Red-shirt freshman Ashley Dewling (Brighton, Mich.) finished tied for 64th.
In other golf action, Michigan State sophomore Holly Niederkohr (Marysville, Ohio) advanced to the second round of at the 104th North and South Women's Amateur at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. Niederkohr defeated Sydney Crane (5 & 3) and will play Charlotte Campbell at 9:22 a.m. Thursday morning.
Senior Mandi McConnell (Grand Blanc, Mich.) lost to Stacy Lewis in her first round match (2 & 1).
