LAKELAND, Fla. - Spartan senior Sara Brown extended her fall season beyond collegiate action, in hopes of pursuing a professional career after her successes at Michigan State. Brown played the four-day Duramed FUTURES Tour 2008 Qualifying School on Nov. 6-8 and finished second among the elite field of 320 Futures Tour hopefuls.
"I hit it really solid, but my putter quit on me today [Thursday]," said Brown. "Still, I'm very happy with the way I played, and I'm excited to get back to college."
"Sara is a tremendous talent from Arizona and her experiences at Michigan State University as well as her drive and desire to play on tour have allowed her to grow as a player over the past four years," said MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "Sara will now have her options open after the NCAA National Championship in May, as she has an immediate place to play professional golf with the opportunity to then qualify for the LPGA Tour next summer by finishing in the Top 5 money list on the Duramed Futures Tour. We are extremely proud of her and all that she has brought to our program during her tenure in East Lansing."
Brown, a Tucson, Ariz., native, finished the tournament at four under par (71-68-71-74--284), playing at the Cleveland Heights Golf Course, Huntington Hills Golf and Country Club and Schalamar Creek Golf Club; scores and courses are listed respectively.
Adding to post-graduate success, former Spartans Emily Bastel and Allison Fouch finished first and second on the Futures Tour money list this year, which earned them full exempt status on the LPGA Tour for 2008.
