The hockey program will hold silent auctions at each home game, with all proceeds going to the Shoot for a Cure program. The auction items are all donated by the hockey program or former Spartan skaters, most who are playing some level of professional hockey. In the first auctions of the season, nearly $550 was raised; items included National Championship photos and game pucks, and Stanley Cup autographed photos. The auctions will continue at this Friday's home game against Western Michigan. Already this season, the team has raised more than $3,000 after raising $5,000 in the program's first year.
The Pen Pal Program began for the 2008-09 school year in the beginning of October. This year, MSU has 89 Student-Athletes participating. There are 62 classrooms at 12 different schools that the student-athletes interact with; each student-athlete is taken to visit their class once during the year. Visits have already begun.
The Michigan State Volleyball team has started a silent auction for 13 pairs of pink Nike volleyball shoes. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the MSU Pediatric and Adolescent Hematology/Oncology Clinic, the clinic that has played a critical role in the treatment of Adalin Farnum, the daughter of women's soccer associate head coach Tammy Farnum. The auction began at Saturday's contest against Purdue and will run through intermission at the match against Indiana, scheduled for November 8. Bidding numbers will be available at the silent auction table at Jenison Field House.
