In the 26th meeting between Michigan State and Penn State, the Nittany Lions defeated the Spartans, 49-18, before a crowd of 109,845 at Beaver Stadium...Penn State now holds a slim edge in the overall series, 13-12-1...MSU falls to 4-9-1 in games played in State College, Pa., including eight losses in a row.
Javon Ringer tied Jehuu Caulcrick's school record for touchdowns in a season with 21...he scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter...Ringer's 33 career rushing TDs are fifth in MSU history...Ringer also tied Caulcrick's school record for points scored in a season with 126.
Ringer was held to a season-low 42 yards on 17 carries...the Heisman Trophy and Doak Walker Award candidate did pass Lorenzo White (1987 season) to move into second on the MSU single-season rushing list with 1,590 yards...White's 2,066 rushing yards in 1985 rank first in an MSU season.
Ringer also moved into second on the MSU single-season chart for carries...he has 370 carries in 2008, tops in the nation this fall, and second in MSU history only to Lorenzo White's 419 carries in 1985.
Ringer finished the game with 69 all-purpose yards and has 1,974 this season, good for fourth most in a Spartan single-season.
Brian Hoyer completed 25-of-40 passes for 206 yards, marking his 13th career 200-yard game, which is third most by a Spartan quarterback...in three career games against Penn State, Hoyer completed 71-of-122 passes for 754 yards and five touchdowns.
Hoyer now has 5,990 career passing yards to move past Dave Yarema for the third-most passing yards in MSU history...his 482 career completions are also third most in MSU history.
Greg Jones recorded a career-high 15 tackles, including 12 solos, marking his sixth straight game with double-figure tackles...he finishes the regular season with 115 tackles, the most by a Spartan since Ronald Stanley had 125 in 2004...Jones also had a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss (9 yards).
Glenn Winston's 173 kick return yards are the third most in a game in MSU history (record: Derrick Mason, 186 yards vs. Penn State in 1994).
Blair White caught a career-high eight passes for 71 yards...he closes the regular season as MSU's team leader in catches (39) and receiving yards (628).
Brett Swenson made his 20th field goal of the year, which is fifth best in an MSU season.
Brandon Denson produced a career-high seven tackles, including five solo hits.
