EAST LANSING, Mich. - Spartan Sports Roundup provides a brief overview of the Olympic sports teams in action. Read a recap of last week's action, look ahead to this week's action and find key notes on each team in this weekly recap.

Members of the MSU hockey team visited children at Sparrow Hospital through the Spartan Buddy program.
Football players Justin Kershaw and Brian Hoyer along with other student-athletes will be speaking to approximately 100 Detroit Public School children and then sitting with them at the UNC-MSU men's basketball game at Ford Field.
Student-athletes will be participating on Sunday in the annual Teams for Toys event. For the holidays, every MSU varsity team has adopted a family from the Salvation Army and will be wrapping presents for them on Sunday afternoon in the Smith Center Auditorium (2-4 p.m.).

Last Week: The Spartan men's and women's teams did not compete last week.
This Week: Both the men's and women's teams are off until Dec. 13 when they host Ball State.
Notes: There were seven new MSU records set at the Spartans' last meet, the TYR Conference Cup as kevin Puskaric (200 breaststroke), Jon LaRocque (50 freestyle & 100 backstroke), the men's 200 medley relay team, Marcus Poteete (100 butterfly), Heather Kiluk (200 IM) and the women's 400 medley relay team all set new school marks ... LaRocque's new record in the 50 free broke an 18-year-old mark set by Mark Lisenby ... Senior Heather Kiluk (Libertyville, Ill.) picked up two wins in MSU's win over Houston, in the 1,000 freestyle and 200 IM ... Sophomore Rebecca Ebner (Okemos, Mich.) has won eight of ten butterfly events she has competed in this year ... Ebner also broke a pool record vs. GVSU, swimming the 100 fly in 56.09 ... Puskaric won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke in his first meet of the season against Iowa ... Six Spartan divers, senior Danielle Williams (Dorchester, Ontario), freshman Sarah Clay (Fishers, Ind.), junior Kayla Kalmbach (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and most recently, Jordan Jackson (Flushing, Mich.), Alycia Mokedanz (Pickering, Ontario) and David Garry (Warren, Mich.) have qualified for NCAA Zones ... Two Spartans, senior Marcus Poteete (Santa Cruz, Calif.), 400 IM and 100 fly, and junior Sho Koba (Ann Arbor, Mich.), 100 and 200 free, each won two events in MSU's win over GVSU ... True freshman Kerry Sodonis (Troy, Mich.) won both the 100 free (vs. Illinois) and the 100 breast (vs. Iowa).

This Week: The Spartans travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., to take on Eastern Michigan on Friday, Dec. 5. Action begins at 7 p.m.
Last Week: The MSU wrestling team traveled to Lock Haven, Pa., last Saturday (Nov. 29) to compete in the Mat Town Open. Senior Rex Kendle (Edwardsburg, Mich.) took the 165-pound title, while six other Spartans finished in fourth place or better.
Notes: Kendle went into last weekend's Open ranked No. 15 by InterMat/NWCA/NWMA ... Kendle's Mat Town Open title marks his second this season and his third top-two finish of the season. Kendle won the MSU Open title at 165 (Nov. 9) and finished second at the EMU Open (Nov. 1) ... Kendle pinned Millersville WC's Jeremy Brooks in 3:27 to take the Mat Town title ... With his three wins at the ACC-Big Ten Clash, Franklin Gomez (Brandon, Fla.) extended his record to 7-0 on the season ... Coming into the week, the Spartans had two wrestlers ranked in the USA Today/NWCA/InterMat Top-20 in their respective weight classes - Gomez (No. 2, 133) and Kendle (No. 15, 165) ... Gomez is ranked second in the country by Amateur Wrestling News and third by Intermat in their preseason rankings.

This Week: The 2008-09 Michigan State track & field program will open its indoor season this Friday with the MSU Invitational at Jenison Field House. The event is set to kick off Friday morning and last all day.
Notes: MSU returns 11 of their 15 NCAA Mideast Regional Qualifiers from last season, including All-American Nicole Bush ... Bush earned All-America honors in the 5,000m run during the indoor season last year, finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships ... Bush will be joined be several other impact distance runners, Lisa Senakiewich, Sarah Price, Emily MacLeod and Leah Elenbaas...The men's side is highlighted by the throwers and jumpers ... Returning for the indoor season will be school record-holder Kyle Strotbaum. Strotbaum holds the weight throw record and will look to set a new mark this winter ... Kyron Foster and Logan Lynch lead a talented group of jumpers ... Both Foster and Lynch scored for the Spartans at the 2007 Big Ten Indoor Championships last season.
