Conference Announces 2008 Spring All-Big Ten Academic Teams

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Big Ten Conference office released the list of the 2008 Spring All-Big Ten Academic Teams on Wednesday afternoon with 80 Michigan State student-athletes garnering recognition for their success both of and off their respective areas of competition.
The MSU rowing team lead the way for the Spartans in the spring with 23 student-athletes honored. Women's track & field had 13 honorees, followed by baseball (nine), men's track & field (eight), hockey (six), men's tennis and women's tennis (five), men's golf and softball (four) and women's golf (three).
The conference also acknowledged 12 student-athletes who have earned a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average, including two Spartans - track & field senior Bill Peterson and women's rowing sophomore Shannon Dunn.
In total, 958 spring and at-large student-athletes were recognized, moving the 2007-08 total to 2,091, the highest total in the last 14 years. To be an eligible Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letter winners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
