EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Spartan wrestler Rashad Evans is making waves as a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighter and will put his perfect 16-0 career record on the line Saturday night (Sept. 6) against Chuck Liddell in Atlanta. The fight begins at 10 p.m. and is available through pay-per-view only.
In preparation for the event, SpikeTV produced a pre-fight show, much of which was filmed in the Michigan State wrestling room. Head wrestling coach Tom Minkel, who works with Evans, is featured on the show with an extensive interview. The show, titled "UFC 88 Countdown", debuts Wednesday at 11 p.m. on SpikeTV and repeats Thursday at 11 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m.
Evans, who participated in the NCAA Wrestling Championships as a Spartan in 2003, also recently filmed a commercial for Microsoft, which debuts on Sept. 8.
