Michigan State improved to 8-0 all-time vs. Eastern Michigan with a 42-10 victory this afternoon before a crowd of 71,789 at Spartan Stadium...MSU is now 37-6-2 against current members of the Mid-American Conference.
The Spartans have now won 10 straight home openers and 11 of their last 12...MSU's last loss in a home opener arrived in 1998 vs. Colorado State.
Javon Ringer scored a career-high five touchdowns, marking the second-most rushing touchdowns by a Spartan in a single game...Blake Ezor owns the school record with six against Northwestern in 1989...Ringer scored three touchdowns in the first half...it marked Ringer's fifth-career multi-touchdown game...it also marked the second time in his career he has scored multi-touchdowns in back-to-back games (scored two rushing TDs last week at Cal; last season, scored three TDs vs. Northwestern and two vs. Indiana).
Ringer passed Duane Goulbourne on MSU's all-time rushing list and is now sixth in MSU history with 2,977 career rushing yards.
Ringer now has seven rushing TDs this season - he had six of all last season...he has 19 rushing TDs for his career.
Ringer finished with 135 yards on a career-high 34 carries...his previous career high was 29 attempts vs. Indiana last season...it marked his 13th-career 100-yard rushing game, which is tied for sixth in MSU history with Eric Allen.
Ringer finished with at least 200 all-purpose yards for the second straight game...he totaled 205 against EMU (135 rushing; 8 receiving; 62 kick return) and had 200 last week at Cal.
Otis Wiley had 113 punt return yards, tying for the fourth-best single-game mark in Spartan history...Wiley had a 78-yard return to start the fourth quarter, leading to Ringer's fifth and final TD, marking the 10th-longest punt return in MSU history....MSU had 126 punt return yards all of last season on 31 returns...the MSU single-game record is 137 punt return yards on six returns by Derrick Mason vs. Eastern Michigan in 1996.
Mark Dell had three receptions for 71 yards...through two games, Dell is averaging 136.5 yards per game (273 yards total)...last season, Dell had 220 receiving yards as a true freshman.
Brian Hoyer moved past Tony Banks into eighth all-time at MSU in career passing yards...Hoyer threw for 148 yards on 8-of-12 passing...Hoyer now has 4,224 career passing yards.
In his first career appearance, red-shirt freshman Kirk Cousins completed 3-of-4 passes for 32 yards...his first pass attempt was a 13-yard completion to Charlie Gantt...his first drive was capped by a 6-yard TD run by Ringer that put MSU up 14-7 at the 5:37 mark in the second quarter.
Andre Anderson rushed for a career-high 75 yards and tied his career best with eight carries (9.4 avg.).
Ashton Leggett scored his first-career TD on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Danny Fortener matched his career high with six tackles in his first career start at free safety.
Trevor Anderson collected his first-career sack with a 7-yard loss in the third quarter.
