EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team welcomed construction crews to Old College Field as they begin construction of the new dugouts before the start of the 2010 season. After rotating the field before the 2009 season, the first phase of construction on the new diamond will begin with the dugouts this winter.
"We are very excited to begin work on the new stadium," said head coach Jacquie Joseph. "When it's all said and done, Old College Field will be one of the most pristine complexes in the conference, if not the nation. We are definitely looking forward to our new stadium to begin the 2011 campaign, and this is only the start to a wonderful experience."
The dugouts will be constructed in-ground and will feature an added restroom at the end. The final stage of construction will begin at the conclusion of the 2010 season, with completion of the new complex scheduled to be just before the start of the 2011 season.
The Spartans begin the 2010 campaign when they travel to Stetson University from Feb. 12-14 for the Lead-off Classic in DeLand, Fla.
