Softball Set For FGCU Spring Break Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team returns to Florida this weekend for the FGCU Spring Break Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla. The Spartans will play five games in three days, beginning on Friday, Feb. 20 and concluding Sunday, Feb. 22. MSU opens against Bethune-Cookman and nationally ranked DePaul on Friday, plays Fairfield and DePaul on Saturday, and wraps up play with host Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. The Spartans opened the season at the Blue & Gold Felsberg Memorial Tournament last weekend, falling in the first two games to Florida Gulf Coast and Florida International. Freshman Ali Grant hit her first collegiate home run in the opening game and five newcomers made their debuts for the Spartans. MSU rallied on day two, picking up wins over St. John's and Georgetown. Junior Kelly Confer picked up both victories and sophomore Lindsey Hansen hit a single to third base in the bottom of the seventh inning against St. John's to send classmate Jessica Bracamonte across the plate for the 4-3 win. The Spartans wrapped up the tournament with a 2-0 win over Temple, with Confer scoring both runs and freshman Lauren Kramer recording her first collegiate win.
