Softball Travels To Birmingham For Magic City Classic

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team travels to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend for the Magic City Classic. MSU opens play on Saturday, Feb. 28 with Samford at 12 p.m. and Pittsburgh at 4 p.m. The Spartans face Northern Illinois at 12 p.m. and UAB at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 1 to conclude the tournament. The Spartans opened the FGCU Spring Break Invitational with a 10-2 win over Bethune-Cookman before falling to No. 13 DePaul 7-2 on day one. The Spartans dropped a 5-1 decision to Fairfield and an 8-0 loss to DePaul on Saturday. MSU wrapped up the tournament Sunday with a 6-5 extra inning loss to host Florida Gulf Coast.
Sophomore Lindsey Hansen hit home runs in back-to-back games, beginning with the game against DePaul on Friday, Feb. 20. She leads the team with three home runs and eight RBIs.
Sophomore Jessica Bracamonte recorded a team-high .368 batting average in the five games played during the tournament. She and Hansen led the team with three RBIs each, while freshman Lauren Kramer posted a team-high 21 putouts through the five games.
Sophomore Shae Bass picked up her first win of the season in a 10-2 win over Bethune-Cookman and finished with a team-high six strikeouts
