WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 20 Michigan State women's golf team is in second place at the Big Ten Championships entering the final round after shooting a 316 on Saturday. The Spartans own a team score of 945 (316-313-316), while host Purdue is in first at 909 (309-300-300).
"The conditions were tough again today," said MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "The gusts were even stronger than yesterday, and the wind was constantly blowing above 20 mph, but every team had to battle the elements. I'm proud of all our players, I know they're frustrated with the conditions, but they're handling themselves well. We're a young team that's gaining valuable experience, and I feel good about what we're doing."
Laura Kueny is in fifth place with a 16-over 232 (76-78-78). Kueny shot a 38 with two bogeys on the front nine, but carded four bogeys on the back nine to finish with a 78. She is currently 12 shots back of leader Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Purdue, who has a 220.
Freshman Shannon Warner continued her impressive play in her first Big Ten Championships, finishing with a team-best third round of 76. The round also ties for her best score of the season.
Fellow freshman Lindsey Solberg is also in the top 15, as she sits in a tie for 13th place at 238 (79-76-83). Solberg carded an 83 on Saturday.
Michelle Bowles is in a tie for 28th place with a 243 (82-80-81), while Natalie Brehm is in a tie for 31st with a 244 (84-79-81).
Aimee Neff owns a three-round score of 250 (84-80-86).
The fourth and final round of the Big Ten Women's Golf Championships will take place Sunday afternoon.
