Five Former Spartans Compete in 2009 Buick Open

GRAND BLANC, Mich. - Five former Michigan State men's golf student-athletes competed in this past week's PGA Tour Buick Open, held at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich. Matt Harmon, a 2007 All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year, led the five Spartans in the field, finishing in a tie for 52nd at 7-under par 281. Ryan Brehm, Jimmy Chestnut, Randy Hutchison and Andrew Ruthkoski all missed the weekend cut.
Harmon opened the week with back-to-back 4-under par 68s to tie for 17th entering the weekend. A third round 2-under 70 kept him in the top-20, but a final round 3-over 75 dropped him down the leaderboard. For the week, Harmon led the field of PGA Tour professionals in driving distance with a 332.0 average.
