
Lucas Named Conference Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - After averaging 20.5 points in four games last week, setting career highs in scoring twice, MSU senior Kalin Lucas was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time in his career, and the first time this season, as announced by the conference office today. Against Chaminade in the opening game of the Maui Invitational, Lucas posted a then career-best 28 points. Two days later against No. 13/11 Washington, Lucas bettered that performance with a game-high 29 points. Lucas shot 69 percent from the field against the Huskies, including a 4-for-5 mark from long range. For the week, the senior shot 54.5 percent from the floor and totaled seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. The Spartans are now 3-0 on the season when Lucas leads the team in scoring.
Lucas is currently averaging 17.5 points in 29.0 minutes per game.
The Detroit, Mich., native, becomes the first Spartan to receive conference distinction since Raymar Morgan on March 1, 2009.
The 5-1 Spartans face No. 1 Duke on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 9:30 p.m. as a part ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Durham, N.C. The contest will be aired live on ESPN.
