EAST LANSING, Mich.-The Michigan State field hockey team will host their 2011 Spring Play Day on January 16, 2011. The Spartans welcome girls ages 10-18 to come out and learn from the MSU players and coaches during two sessions of play. The event will include shooting drills, game play and goalkeeping training sessions.
The Spring Play Day will be held at the Duffy Daugherty Football Building which is located near the corner of Shaw Lane and Chestnut Road. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the morning session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Following an hour break for lunch, (participants need to provide their own lunch), the afternoon session will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The Spartan Spring Play Day is designed to provide young field hockey athletes with an opportunity to learn new skills, participate in drills, meet the Spartans and the Michigan State field hockey coaching staff. Throughout the day, there will be shoot drills, small game situations and scrimmages giving the participants a chance to interact with the Spartans.
"Every year we look forward to welcoming both local and regional talent to our Winter Play Day," said assistant coach Molly Maloney. "This is another opportunity for us to help develop and help foster an increasing level of play for field hockey in the Midwest."
Interested participants must register by January 7, 2011 by sending in the registration form. Forms and the $40 registration fee should be sent to the Spartan Field Hockey office. Participants will receive a confirmation email once they are registered. Each player must bring their own field hockey stick, shin guards, a mouth guard and goalies must provide their own equipment. Sports clothing and either sneakers or turf shoes should be worn. Each participant is responsible for bringing their own lunch.
