Laura Kueny Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior Laura Kueny has been named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Kueny tied for seventh at last week's Regional Challenge (Feb. 8-10), a 15-team tournament in Palos Verdes, Calif., that featured 11 top-25 programs.
The Whitehall, Mich., native finished the Regional Challenge at 8-over with a 221 (69-73-79). It marked the 18th time in her career and the fourth time this season she has placed in the top 10 of a tournament. Kueny's round of 69 on Feb. 8 matched her career-best score for a single round.
This marks the second time in Kueny's career she has been named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week. Her first Big Ten weekly award came last season after she took first in a dual against Ohio State on Jan. 25, 2009.
Kueny and the No. 10 Spartans return to action next week for the Central District Invitational (Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 22-23) in Parrish, Fla., at the River Wilderness Country Club.
