EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team fell to Nebraska, 6-1, on Friday, Feb. 19, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The loss puts the Spartans at 6-3 on the 2010 season.
Although Nebraska attained the doubles point, the Spartan duo of freshman Denis Bogatov (Gurnee, Ill.) and junior Clark Richardson (Leawood, Kan.) picked up a win at No. 3 doubles after defeating Sock and Boney, 8-3, bringing them to an 8-0 record.
"No. 3 doubles played a clean game and I definitely thought it was one of the better matches of the year," said head coach Gene Orlando. "They got us one half of the doubles point that we needed to win, helped us stay in there and really made it competitive for us."
Senior Joe Vallee (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) made an impressive debut in singles action earning the lone point for the Green and White. Vallee took Nebraska's Andre Stengr into a three-set match where he outlasted him, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.
"Joe Vallee came out and really impressed us today," said assistant coach Matt Roberts of the senior's first singles performance. "He is one of the hardest workers on this team and he finally got a chance to get in the singles lineup. At the end of the day, we were extremely happy with what we saw from him."
The Spartans next host Toledo, tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20, at 4 p.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
