EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team stretched its winning streak to four matches after defeating Ball State, 5-2, Saturday, Feb. 6, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Spartans improved to 6-2 on the season with the win.
For the sixth time this season, the Green and White began the match by picking up the doubles point. Junior Jason Norville (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and senior Joe Vallee (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) defeated Andres Monroy and Zane Smith, 8-4, at the No. 2 slot, while junior Clark Richardson (Leawood Kan.) and freshman Denis Bogatov (Gurnee, Ill.) topped Derek Carpenter and Alex Doherty, 8-5.
The momentum from doubles action carried over into singles play as four of six matches were claimed by the Spartans. Bogatov played at No. 3 singles and defeated Alex Brym, 6-1, 6-3, while Norville competed at the No. 4 spot to top Monroy, 6-3, 6-. Junior John Stratton (Monroeville, N.J.) posted a win over Dalton Albertin, 7-6(5), 6-2, and Richardson earned the fourth singles win for the Spartans, outlasting Shaun Bussert, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(2).
Sophomore Ronnie Hulewicz (Tequesta, Fla.) faced Eduardo Pavia at No. 1 singles, forcing him into a three-set match, but ultimately fell, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
MSU will take on Western Michigan next Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts.
