EAST LANSING, Mich. - After winning the Lady Buckeye Invitational last weekend, senior Laura Kueny has been named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week. It marks the second straight week Kueny has won the honor, and the third time this season.
Kueny claimed her second career tournament victory with a score of 11-over 227 (78-76-73) at the Buckeye Invitational, edging Ohio State's Rachel Rohanna by one stroke. Kueny led the No. 10 Spartans to a second-place finish, 14 shots behind host and 21st-ranked Ohio State.
Kueny carded a 1-over 73 in the final round, tying for the best single-round of any player along with teammate Lindsey Solberg. Kueny shot a 2-over 38 on the front nine, but she opened the back nine with back-to-back birdies. She then got par on four straight holes before bogeying the 16th. Kueny finished with consecutive pars to beat out Rohanna, who closed with a 76 on Sunday.
Kueny's first tournament victory arrived at the 2007 Fossum Invitational in East Lansing.
The No. 13 Spartan women's golf team returns to action this weekend for the Big Ten Championships in Madison, Wis.
