EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior Laura Kueny has been named a second-team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association. Kueny earned second-team All-America honors from Golfweek last year in addition to garnering honorable mention All-America accolades from the NGCA. This marks the 11th time in program history a player has earned All-America honors.
Kueny had a remarkable senior year in which she recorded the best single-season stroke average in school history with a 73.85 average. She was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Year and was selected first-team All-Big Ten for the third straight season. Kueny won the Lady Buckeye Invitational in April and finished runner-up at the Tar Heel Invitational and the Gator Invitational. Overall, she posted eight top-10 finishes in 11 events this season and five in the top five, including a career-best third at the Big Ten Championships.
The Whitehall, Mich., native also set the MSU career scoring average record with a 74.60 mark, surpassing Sara Brown's previous record of 75.27. Kueny leaves Michigan State with three of the top seven single-season scoring averages in program history, as her 74.50 average in 2008-09 ranks fourth and her 75.03 in 2007-08 ranks seventh. She is also the only player at MSU to shoot two rounds of 68, which is tied for the school single-round record.
