
Track & Field Concludes Day Three At Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - Members of the Michigan State track & field team continued action at the Drake Relays on Friday, April 29 in Des Moines, Iowa. Junior Becca Buchholtz led the Spartans during day three of the event with a second-place finish in the high jump.
Through the first three heights, Buccholtz was the lone jumper to successfully complete each height, as well as the 1.78m mark. Buchholtz was unable to clear the 1.81m mark, placing her second overall as she cleared 1.78m on her second attempt.
Sophomore Beth Rohl also turned in a top-5 finish as she was third in the women's discus with a toss of 53.74m. Rohl was 1.17m behind Keely Mederios of Florida in first (54.91m).
Junior Leslie Aririguzo finished seventh in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles, advancing to the event finals tomorrow with a qualifying time of 13.87.
Senior Ashley Smith also finished seventh in the pole vault as she tied with Bethany Buell of South Dakota with a height of 3.85m.
Zack Hill turned in the top freshman mark in the shot put as he was 11th overall with a toss of 16.72m.
Sophomore Codi Mattix and freshman Derik Peterman both pole vaulted a height of 5.00m to place tied for 11th overall.
The Spartans close out action at the Drake Relays tomorrow (April 30), while also opening action at Central Michigan's Lyle Bennett Open in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
