EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team (13-8, 2-3) faced off against Indiana Saturday (March 31) at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Spartans were victorious with a 5-2 win over the Hoosiers. MSU started off the day winning the doubles point then carried that momentum into singles action taking four out of the six matches. This is MSU's second-straight Big Ten win after defeating Wisconsin, 6-1, last weekend.
Starting off in doubles, Aaron Pfister and Drew Lied quickly defeated Langer and Juneau on court one, 8-5. But the following two sets both went into tie-breakers. MSU won again on court two as Austin Brooks and Harry Jadun defeated MacTaggart and Barnes 9-8 (2) to seal the doubles point. But Indiana won the third and final match on court three with a 9-8 (4) victory for Vogl and Kendall over Denis Bogatov and Doug Zade to keep the Spartans from sweeping doubles.
The Spartans carried their winning ways into singles action, taking four of the six matches. However, the Hoosiers picked up their first point on court two when MacTaggart defeated Denis Bogatov 6-1, 6-4. Michigan State then went on a roll, winning the next four points, Drew Lied beat Tasic on court five 6-1, 6-2 and on court three Ronnie Hulewicz picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Langer.
Gijs Linders kept it going on court six, topping the Hoosier's Kendall, 6-2, 7-6 (4) to clinch the Spartan's victory. Aaron Pfister gained the Spartan's last point on court one defeating Juneau 6-2, 7-6 (3). Indiana won the final point of the day when Vogl defeated Austin Brooks in a close three-set match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 on court four.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday (April 1) as they look to continue their Big Ten winning streak against Purdue at 12 p.m. on the MSU Outdoor Tennis courts, pending on weather.
