Kreutz Named Big Ten Player of the Week

East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State redshirt sophomore Tim Kreutz (Zurich, Ill./ Lake Zurich) has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, as selected by the Conference office on Monday, Sept. 24.
Kreutz, who missed all of last season due to injury, has been a welcome return to the roster for the Spartans. Last Wednesday, Kreutz had a goal and an assist in a 2-1 victory over in-state rival Western Michigan in MSU's final non-conference game before its Big Ten schedule begins.
Kreutz scored in the 56th minute when he put back a rebound off an Adam Montague scoring attempt, and then assisted on Luke Norman's first goal as a Spartan less than 90 seconds later to turn a scoreless draw into a two-goal advantage for MSU. This is the first weekly award of his career.
The Spartans have just one game this week, welcoming defending Big Ten regular-season and Tournament champion Northwestern to town for a game on Sunday afternoon. It will be the back end of a Spartan soccer doubleheader which will air live on the Big Ten Network; MSU hosts Iowa in a women's contest at 1 p.m., and then the men tangle with the Wildcats at 3:30.
