East Lansing, Mich. - - Michigan State head coach Jacquie Joseph saw her team finish out its fall schedule of games last weekend with a sweep of Kalamazoo Valley Community College (4-1) and Wayne State (10-5), a week after posting a 7-0 victory over Lansing Community College.
While fall practices will continue for the Spartans, the three fall exhibition games gave the coaching staff a first look at how the seven new players integrate into the team, and also areas on which to focus the remaining fall practices.
"Our goals for the fall were to see as many of our new players in action as we could. For us to use as many different lineups and players in different situations as possible. It's our first real evaluation of our freshmen in game situations."
"I have to say, I was pleased with what I saw," continued the coach. "By no means are we a finished product, but we're in a good place for where we are in our development. We now have a good list of things we will need to work out before our season opener in February."
"I think that the fall games are not only good for evaluation, but games are the fun part for the team - it can get a little long and tired only playing split-squad and doing drills. Our focus now turns to individual player development, strength and conditioning."
