Softball Signs Kristina Zalewski to National Letter of Intent

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State softball head coach Jacquie Joseph has announced that Kristina Zalewski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline High School) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Spartans and will be eligible to compete in the 2014 season.
Zalewski joins fellow incoming freshmen Sarah Gutknech (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington High School), Valerie Kaff (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View High School), Kassidy Kujawa (Tampa Fla./Wharton High School), and McKenna Stephens (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake High School), who signed NLI's in November.

High School: Four-year letterwinner at Saline High School under Coach Alicia Seegert, who played at Michigan . . . two-time all-region honoree . . . three-time all-conference and all-district selection . . . helped lead her team to the SEC league championship and a No. 8 ranking in the state this spring . . . the Hornets play in the districts Monday in Monroe, Mich. . . . struck out 10 in a complete game shutout win over Skyline on May 2 and also hit a solo home run . . . was one out from throwing a perfect game against Chelsea on April 29, but still recorded a complete game shutout in the 4-0 victory . . . honorable mention all-state selection as a junior in 2012 . . . helped lead Saline to a share of the SEC title in 2012 as the Hornets finished the season with a 29-8 record . . . named to the Washtenaw County Class A Dream Team in 2010 and 2011 . . . helped lead her team to a district title as a freshman in 2010 . . . also lettered in swimming (2009-10) . . . member of the two-time state championship swimming team (2009, 2010) . . . named to the honor roll all four years . . . named to the academic all-state team in 2010.
Club: Plays for the Finesse Club team (2011-13), coached by Donny Dreher . . . has also played for the Michigan Adidas Futures Team (2011).
Personal: Daughter of Ken and Pam Zalewski . . . born May 8, 1995 . . . owns a 4.0 GPA and plans to major in biochemistry at Michigan State.
Joseph on Zalewski: "We are excited about Kristina joining our Spartan family. She is the hardest throwing high school pitcher in her class in the state of Michigan, currently throwing in the mid-60s. She is also an excellent student and plans to study biochemistry at MSU."
