No. 17 Men's Soccer to Take on Akron Tuesday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 17 Michigan State men's soccer team will play Akron this Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium. MSU currently has a record of 5-2-2 on the season and a 1-1-1 record in the Big Ten Conference following a 3-2 loss to Ohio State on Saturday.
Last Time Out
Despite scoring two second-half goals, the No. 17 Michigan State men's soccer team fell to Ohio State, 3-2, in Columbus, Ohio Saturday night. Senior Ryan Keener took a throw in from sophomore midfielder Dewey Lewis and found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Tim Kreutz scored his second goal of the season off the pass from senior Fatai Alashe. Keener and Kreutz became the first Spartans to have multiple goals this season.

The Spartans were ranked No. 17 last week in the NSCAA Coaches poll. They hold the No. 14 rank in the NCAA RPI Rankings.
MSU is currently sixth in the Big Ten with a conference record of 1-1-1. Michigan State is tied for third in assists (10) in the conference statistical rankings and junior goalkeeper Zach Bennett ranks second in the conference in shutouts (7) and goals against average (0.42) and third in save percentage (.852).
Bennett ranks sixth nationally in GAA (0.42) and 18th in save percentage (.852). The Spartans rank third in the nation in shutout percentage (.78).
Scouting Akron
Akron currently owns a record of 5-3-1 after a 1-0 victory over UAB. Under head coach Jared Embick, sophomore midfielder Adam Najem owns three goals and two assists to lead the team with eight points, followed by freshman forward Stuart Holthusen (2-2-6) and senior forward Saad Abdul-Salaam (2-1-5). Junior goalkeeper Jake Fenlason owns a 0.85 GAA and .843 Sv% with three shutouts.
