Men's Soccer Athlete Earns Weekly Big Ten Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Men's soccer goalkeeper Zach Bennett was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 29th following consecutive shutouts against Bowling Green and Rutgers.
The Plano, Texas, native tied the school record for career shutouts on Sunday, totalling 23 shutouts following the game over Rutgers. After holding down the net for every minute of the 2014 season to date, he now has seven shutouts in eight games.
Following the weekend matchups, Bennett leads the conference in GAA (0.12), Sv% (.952), shutouts (7) and shutouts per game (0.89). Nationally, he ranks second in GAA and third in Sv%.
He last earned Player of the Week recognition on Sept.23, 2013 following a shutout over Bowling Green.
Bennett and the rest of the MSU men's soccer team returns to action Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Ohio State.
