Spartan Track & Field Travels to Notre Dame on Saturday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State track & field squads will hit the road this weekend for an early season test at the Notre Dame Invitational. The event will get underway at 10 a.m. at the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Indiana.
"This meet will be a good way to sort of kick-start the indoor season," said MSU Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Walt Drenth. "We'll be competing against some very good teams. Besides Notre Dame, we'll see Indiana State, Purdue, Eastern Michigan and DePaul."
"It will be another good early completion and we're ready to get going. Every meet is specific preparation for the conference meet. Our primary objective is to be ready in late February.
The Michigan State women's team, ranked No. 19 in the NCAA Preseason Rankings, is coming off a strong showing at last week's Grand Valley State Open. The Spartans finished second out of 13 squads with 105.60 total points as six individuals posted top marks and times in their respective events. Jellisa Westney won the 60m dash with a time of 7.57, while Alicia Evans (24.18) and Tori Franklin (55.51) claimed the 200m and 400m, respectively. Lauren Chorny won the pole vault with a mark of 3.94, Katelyn Daniels had the top throw in the shot put (14.53m) and Cynthia Watt posted a mark of 19.48m in the weight throw.
The MSU men's team, ranked Preseason No. 22, recorded 94 points and placed third at last week's Grand Valley State Open. Tim Ehrhardt was the top performer in the pole vault (5.20m), while Antonio James placed second in both the shot put (18.29m) and the weight throw (19.85m). Austin Sanders (21.60) and Demarcus Leak (1.98m) placed second in the 200m and the high jump, respectively.
